Kala Cotton Thick and Thin Striped Camp Shirt
We decided on crafting this piece with two bold hexagonal flap pockets with reverse pleat. Sharp edges for the stripes to live on and do their magic! This fabric has so much texture and depth as well as a wonderful smell during pressing. It has a bit more of an open weave making it very soft and breathable.
This fabric is created from hand spun yarn threads and woven on the traditional handloom in the Kutch region of India. It is called Kala cotton.
This fibre is one of the most water efficient types of cotton in the world. It grows just on rain-fed water, in drought prone regions without any high inputs of fertilizers or pesticides. It is an example of the rich plurality of the land and resources of India. There is life in this fabric.
The cotton produce of Kutch, believed to trace its history to the Harappa Civilization is a reinvention of the ancient chain of farmers, ginners, hand spinners, dyers and weavers. This fuses different local economies together in a loop to create a new product that is also gentle to the environment.
