Tony Shirtmakers creates meticulously constructed, fine tailored garments. Each piece is sewn with single needle tailoring and clean finished using heritage techniques and hand work.
Founder, owner and chief tailor Tony taught himself the basics of shirt making by taking apart a dress shirt and sewing it back together. Through countless repetition, he taught himself how to construct a shirt. When Tony hit a plateau, he spent several years honing his craft working as the sole shirtmaker for a fine bespoke tailor in New York City. He was simultaneously building up his label in his free time, creating one of a kind custom garments and small runs of ready to wear shirts.
Tony and his wife Laura now run Tony Shirtmakers out of a cozy, light filled studio on the ground floor of their home in the small village of Damariscotta, Maine. Laura worked in womenswear for nearly two decades before joining forces with Tony when the couple moved to Maine in 2021.
Tony Shirtmakers offers both custom and ready to wear options, with Tony making each bespoke commission by hand - from design and fittings, to pattern making, cutting, pressing, sewing and hand-finishing. Ready to Wear collections are designed by Tony and Laura in Maine and produced in small runs at a mom and pop factory in New York City.
Tony and Laura believe that clothing should be thoughtful, considered and have longevity. Each garment is constructed with an attention to detail and quality sharpened by years of skilled practice designing, styling and constructing shirts.
